Work Report
Message from Sin Chung Kai

Digital Hong Kong 2005 initially was the platform for my Legislative Council election campaign in 1998, it depicts how I envisage Hong Kong being a digital city that excels in the field of advanced technology and is able to harness technologies to boost our economy and to raise our living standard. Having obtained support of the IT voters, I was elected to be the legislator representing the Information Technology Functional Constituency (ITFC) and was given the great opportunity to prove that Digital Hong Kong is not a castle in the air but a feasible and pragmatic plan that leads Hong Kong to prosper in the 21st century.

Throughout the past two years, it has been my ineffable honor and pleasure to witness and influence on the IT development in Hong Kong with great support from the IT industry and opportunities to work with them. We have worked hand in hand, witnessed our visions became realities, and are now reaping the fruits of our toil. However, it is just the beginning of our mission of leading Hong Kong to usher into the digital age, our hard work does not stop here. Hong Kong is still a laggard in the global digital economy. It takes more than a frenetic rush of buying Internet stocks or a few government campaign slogans to make Hong Kong a leading digital city, we need to continue to urge the government to implement feasible policies and introduce pertinent legislative measures to fortify the cornerstones for the future digital Hong Kong. This work report is meant to inform you of the latest IT development in Hong Kong, the progress of our work, and my service in the Legislative Council in the past two year. As always, I hope this report will attract your comments.

I have been involved in Hong Kong politics for over a decade and have been an elected representative at all three tiers of the government since 1985. Having been elected in 1998 to represent the ITFC shifted my policy focus from housing and transportation to the digital economy and IT professional development. What remain unchanged throughout the years are my ardent passion in serving the community and promoting public good and my committed mission to fight for democracy, freedom, and the rule of law in Hong Kong. And I hope I can continue to work for you and with you for a better Hong Kong.

I have no regret for being in the political arena for all these years, but please allow me to seize this opportunity here to express my greatest gratitude to my beloved family for their perpetual support and kind understanding.
