Relief.Asia: IT for Disaster Relief Management
An online platform for relief efforts - Relief.Asia - was launched yesterday in Hong Kong by Internet Society Hong Kong (ISOC HK), supported by The Professional Commons.

Relief.Asia was developed in the wake of the Myanmar Cyclone and Sichun Earthquake Disaster that tore through the region in May, 2008. The website was deployed as a tool and platform to drive awareness and community contribution towards the rebuilding of nature-savaged regions such as Myanmar (also known as Burma) and Sichun, through the application of Information Technology.
I am encouraged by the Relief.Asia and other efforts by the IT and engineering sectors, particularly in coming forward with effective technology solutions to contribute to the relief effort. I appeal to all IT and engineering organizations and professionals in Hong Kong to do all they can to help these victims and survivors in China and Myanmar to get through this most difficult period.

According to Mr. Charles Mok, Chairman of ISOC HK, Relief.Asia has established connections with organizations with presence in Myanmar and China. Survival items and communications devices are ready to be sent to Burma.
An online donation gateway has been set up, and donations will be collected for international relief agencies such as Oxfam and WorldVision, and the deployment of emergency mobile network infrastructure for disaster management.
For donation and contributions, please click here to visit their website or click on the logo above.
