Bridging the Digital Divide: IT Facilities for Disable Students
Rapid development of IT has radically changed our lives, the way we do business, the way we communicate, the way we learn... are all enhanced by IT. However, such a powerful enabling technology is not accessible to everyone, creating a gap in the society, which we refer to as the digital divide.
Among the disadvantaged groups, one of them deserves more attention; this group of people faces difficulties beyond our everyday experience, and IT could bring immense difference to their learning and to their lives, technology can help them overcome barriers in communications--these are the disable students.
On the WTISD launch, I met with Ms. Lai--Principal of Chun Tok School, a primary and secondary school with emphasis in assisting hearing-impaired students, providing both special and inclusive education.
I learnt of their need for IT facilities to provide quality education to hearing-impaired students. The school now calls for donation of IT facilities, and I would like to draw your attention to this initiative. Let's not forget that IT is for the society and for all, if we stand by the side of these students, we can help them unleash their potential, achieving the once-improbable goals.
