2007/08 Policy Address Proposal (ICT Policy)

After a summer break, the meeting will soon resume on 10 October 2007. And our Chief Executive, Mr. Donald Tsang, will deliver his first Policy Address of the third term of HKSARG at the Legislative Council on the same day.

In order to express our concern on Policy Address, I, together with the Election Committee (IT Subsector) members, published our proposals on ICT policies and development and held a press conference on 17 September 2007.

There are totally 46 recommendations in the proposal. They aim at providing government with a blueprint on how to strength Hong Kong as a ubiquitous information society. The government is recommended to increase the ICT investment with a view to maintaining Hong Kong’s competitiveness.

As web 2.0 and user-centric applications are the trends for the ICT development, developing e-government and health IT are ways to encourage citizens’ ICT adoption. Moreover, an advanced ICT infrastructure and comprehensive Internet security policy are needed so as to drive up citizens’ ICT usage. The Policy Address is expected to be posted on the thematic website on 10 October morning. You are highly encouraged to express your valuable opinions.

Updates on Digital Agenda Forum Series: Opportunities in Health IT for

Hong Kong

It was held on 24 September 2007. It is my pleasure that the Forum was a great success. Over 130 representatives from the ICT sectors, medical and healthcare concern groups attended at the event. Through the presentation, they could have a more in-depth understanding about the IT and Healthcare in the Hospital Authority; and the undergoing Pilot Project about Public Private Interface. Last but not least, they could exchange their opinions on various topics during the roundtable discussion.

If you have any opinions about the above topics, please drop me a few lines at cksin@sinchungkai.org.hk.
