Tackling spamming: the Next Steps

The OFTA conducted a public consultation exercise on proposals to contain the problem of unsolicited electronic messages, which ended in late October 2004. Government will soon announce her decision on the way forward.

If you are eager to know the government's proposal, please consider to attend a luncheon which is jointly organized by Hong Kong Computer Society, Hong Kong Information Technology Federation, Hong Kong Wireless Industry Association plus Information and Software Industry Association, Hong Kong Internet Service Providers Association, and Internet & Telecom Association of Hong Kong. Secretary for Commerce, Industry and Technology, Mr. John Tsang, will speak on the topic of "Tackling spamming: the Next Steps". [Details]

In early Feb, I raised a council question on whether the HKSAR government will strive for the inclusion of the software produced by HK software developers in the scope of "Implementation Method for Government Procurement of Software" in the discussions on Cepa III.

I urge the government to help HK companies obtain non-discriminatory treatment under Cepa III, since Hong Kong is already part of China, local companies should be treated equally as other mainland software companies. As an effort to fight for the best interest of local IT industry, I will submit a wish list to the government, in which outline the industry's aspiration on Cepa III. Drop me a few lines (cksin@sinchungkai.org.hk) if you have any proposal on Cepa III.
