Objective
Promoting the IT professional status
is one of the key issues that most of
the IT professionals concern. Following
a series of discussion conducted over
the years, the IT industry has reached
a consensus on adopting some sorts of
accreditation systems for enhancing
the standards of IT profession. 18 professional
bodies and trade associations in the
IT industry formed a working group in
2002 to explore the registration system
framework for IT professionals.
Having moved step by step towards
the goal of setting up a registration
system, there have been other new
developments since mid-2005. Two projects
with a similar aim on promote IT professionalism
has been rolled out: the Education
and Manpower Bureau (EMB) appointed
a committee for setting up a Qualification
Framework (QF) for the ICT industry
and, the Office of Government Chief
Information Officer (OGCIO) sponsored
the Hong Kong Computer Society to
conduct a pilot project on IT certification.
The principal objective of this seminar
is to provide a platform for the IT
industry players to:
- understand those projects on promoting
IT professionalism and,
- conduct in-depth discussion and
explore the suitable measures on
raising IT professional status in
Hong Kong.
