Seminar on Promoting IT Professional Status

Objective
Promoting the IT professional status is one of the key issues that most of the IT professionals concern. Following a series of discussion conducted over the years, the IT industry has reached a consensus on adopting some sorts of accreditation systems for enhancing the standards of IT profession. 18 professional bodies and trade associations in the IT industry formed a working group in 2002 to explore the registration system framework for IT professionals.

Having moved step by step towards the goal of setting up a registration system, there have been other new developments since mid-2005. Two projects with a similar aim on promote IT professionalism has been rolled out: the Education and Manpower Bureau (EMB) appointed a committee for setting up a Qualification Framework (QF) for the ICT industry and, the Office of Government Chief Information Officer (OGCIO) sponsored the Hong Kong Computer Society to conduct a pilot project on IT certification.

The principal objective of this seminar is to provide a platform for the IT industry players to:

  • understand those projects on promoting IT professionalism and,
  • conduct in-depth discussion and explore the suitable measures on raising IT professional status in Hong Kong.

Programme rundown

The program will include presentations from the three projects on working on IT professionalism. Person-in-charge from each project will share with the audience the progress update and the working timetable. In addition, a highly interactive discussion session is arranged for engaging members of the audience who wish to comment on these projects and express their views on IT professional development.
