Hong
Kong has firmly established itself
as a participant in the digital
revolution. Broadband Internet
penetration is extensive, making
Hong Kong a truly wired society.
However, the Internet has also
brought new challenges. "The
Internet delivers a wealth of
information at our fingertips
and gives us the ability to buy,
sell and engage in e-Commerce
on-line. Yet the stark fact is
that the Internet is also used
for the purposes of stealing private
information, personal identities,
spamming, infecting computers
with viruses and also for the
illegal sale and download of software"
according to Tarun Sawney, Director
of Anti-piracy, Asia, at the Business
Software Alliance (BSA).
The aim of organizing the "Right
Click" Consumer Protection
Seminar is to educate users
of the Internet on how to better
protect themselves from such illegal
activity. Experts in their fields
from BSA, the HKSARGovernment,
the ISP Association of Hong Kong,
eBay, ADMA, Microsoft and the
University of Science & Technology,
as well as Mr. Sin Chung Kai,
the Legislative Councillor representing
IT industry, will form a panel
at the above event to share their
knowledge. In an interactive forum
they will provide valuable feedback
on a wide range of Internet related
issues such as phishing, spyware,
spam, purchase/download of pirate
software, security and the relevant
laws relating to the Internet.
In addition, the most recent trends
in Internet behavior in Hong Kong
will be covered. |
